Council cleans “disgusting” High Street

Jetwashers were out early on Sunday morning

The council has sent out workers to give the High Street a deep clean after residents and shoppers told The Lincolnite the area was a “terrible mess”.

While most of the city was sleeping early on Sunday morning, workers arrived at the High Street with jet washers and leaf blowers.

The Lincolnite visited the High Street a couple of weeks ago to see what the fuss was about and to ask other shoppers what they thought.

At the time, the City of Lincoln Council told The Lincolnite that the lack of rain was to blame for the dirty High Street.

Shane Harrison, Cleansing Services Officer at the City of Lincoln Council, said: “Our contractors Biffa do a thorough litter pick and street sweep each morning, but they do not always power wash the streets and pavements with water.

“This summer has been especially dry and we have not benefitted from the natural cleaning effect of the rain, which makes a considerable difference.

“However, we are aware of the need for a deep clean in places, and have asked Biffa to power wash these areas on an ongoing basis from 22 July onwards.”
