Scunthorpe United stadium expansion and 160 apartments plan

Improved amenities, expanded stadium, business space and new homes in the plans.

Scunthorpe United has formally submitted plans to increase the capacity of its stadium to 11,000 seats, with the addition of office space and 160 apartments.

The Iron lodged the proposals to North Lincolnshire Council in an effort to redevelop Glanford Park as the club looks to challenge for promotion from League One.

The club has said that the plans will create a modern stadium in line with its ambition to get back into the Championship.

Now, the Iron have submitted the proposals to redevelop the 30-year-old stadium which they say will help to cope with an increase in demand.

Permission is being sought to redevelop the existing stadium on Jack Brownsword Way and increase its capacity by an extra 2,000 seats with around 700 car parking spaces.

The plans also include proposals for office space which the club will make available to rent in order to make extra income, the NHS is being considered to be one of the first tenants.

Further lettable space will be available for use on non-matchdays, such as conferences, as well as bars and cafes.

The club has also proposed plans for three blocks of 160 apartments to the north east of the  stadium, though designs are in the early stages.

In a design and access statement, the club said that the aim of the development is to create a mixed use stadium which will complement the town.

It said: “The scheme aims to create an attractive contemporary mixed use development complementing the Scunthorpe area.

“The proposed facilities will provide visitors to the development with a wide range of new and improved public spaces and amenities, including a redeveloped football stadium and spaces for hospitality, retail and business.”
