600 home plan for Immingham submitted

Developers have submitted plans for more than 500 homes and 80 retirement properties in Immingham.

The plans by the Brocklseby Estate would see the housing development built at Highfield Farm off Stallingborough Road in the town.

The ambitious proposal seeks permission from North East Lincolnshire Council for up to 525 houses on the site, as well as 80 homes which would be allocated for assisted living and the retired.

A mix of housing would be provided, including two, three and four bedroom homes.

The site is allocated under the council’s local plan which was unanimously adopted back in March by councillors in the region.

Under the local plan, the authority estimates that around 13,340 homes will have to be built in the borough by 2032.

Meanwhile, the developer said that the historic Highfield Farmhouse would be retained on the site, but the remaining five farm buildings would be demolished.

They added they the development would be built in four phases should planning approval be granted.

Plans revealed prior to the formal application showed that the proposed development would see a 10.5% growth in the size of the town.

Immingham currently has a population of around 11,500 people.

But, the applicant added that the site would not “significantly change the character” of the area.

In a design and access statement, the applicant said that the application will provide opportunities for the area.

It said the development would “provide additional public open space and provide new housing, increasing availability, variety and choice.”.

It added that the site would support the council’s housing targets for the next five years.

A decision on the proposal will be made by the council at a later date.
