£5k reward for Grimsby murder info

Independent charity Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for information relating to the murder of 48-year-old Grimsby man Peter Craven.

As previously reported, emergency services attended a property at Oxford Street in Grimsby at around 11.40pm on August 15 after reports that Mr Craven was seriously injured, and he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

A post mortem revealed that he died following a serious head injury.

Humberside Police are now keen to speak with 30-year-old Michael Kavanagh, who still has links to Grimsby, in connection with the incident, but his whereabouts are currently unknown.

Crimestoppers is offering a reward of up to £5,000 for any information which leads to the arrest of Kavanagh.

A third man, aged 34, was previously arrested on August 21 in connection with the murder, but he has since been released on bail. A 47-year-old man was previously released with no further action and a 35-year-old man received conditional bail.

Head of Operations for Crimestoppers Dave Hunter said: “We’re keen to support Humberside Police on this appeal and that is why we are offering this reward.

“No community wants a murder happening on their doorstep, and we want to ensure people know they have a service that they can give information to 100% anonymously.

“We never ask for any personal details and in 30 years of the charity’s existence, we have never compromised anyone’s anonymity. So please, do the right thing and tell us what you know, not who you are.”

People have paid tribute to the victim online.

Detective Chief Inspector at Humberside Police Christine Calvert said: “My officers are conducting extensive enquiries into the murder of Peter Craven following a number of strong leads that we have so far.

“We want that information to keep coming in so please get in contact with anything you might know, even if you think it isn’t important. It might be crucial to us.”
