Second A17 crash victim named as inquest opens

Two people died in the crash

A second person who died in a serious crash on the A17 at Swineshead in August has been named as an inquest was opened into her death.

As previously reported, four people were injured in the crash involving a silver Citroen and a white Mercedes Benz van, which happened outside the Ivy Plant Shop on the A17 at Swineshead at 12.15pm on Wednesday, August 29.

Two suffered minor injuries and two women in their 80s were rushed to hospital in a serious condition and both later died.

Mary Bernadette Blades, 84, from the Spadling area, was airlifted to hospital, but later passed away and her family released a tribute to her last month.

A second casualty was taken to Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and died weeks later on September 17.

She has now been identified as 83-year-old Joyce Irene Traves from Spalding.

Lincolnshire Coroners Service confirmed that Joyce was the front seat passenger of the vehicle driven by Mary Blades.

An inquest was opened by assistant coroner for Lincolnshire M Spittal at Boston Coroners Court on Monday, October 1 and results from the post mortem are expected in the coming weeks pending further tests results, and also police reports.

The case has been adjourned to a provisional date in six months time.

Police appeal

Last month police continued to appeal for witnesses to the collision and said they would like to speak to the driver of a silver or light coloured tanker they believe was travelling along the A17 in the location at the time of the crash.

The driver may be a witness and was not involved in the collision in any way, police said.
