Elderly man dies after being hit by train

The incident is not being treated as suspicious

A 62-year-old man from Nottingham was pronounced dead at the scene after being hit by a train close to Burton Joyce station on Thursday.

The incident, which happened between Nottingham and Newark and also caused delays to routes including to Lincoln and Grimsby, is not being treated as suspicious.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Shortly before 10.45am today (29 November) British Transport Police were called to the track close to Burton Joyce station following reports that a person had been hit by a train.

“Colleagues from the ambulance service also attended. However, a 62-year-old man from Nottingham, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“This incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and his family has been informed. A report will now be prepared for the coroner.”
