Driver released in A46 double fatal crash probe

Two 19-year-old died in the crash

The man arrested after the double fatal crash on the A46 Lincoln bypass on Saturday morning has now been released from custody under investigation.

As previously reported, the 26-year-old local man was arrested for allegedly causing death by dangerous driving, providing a positive breath test and leaving the scene of a collision.

He was allegedly the driver of a white Citroen C3 which crashed with a blue Ford Mondeo estate between the Carholme and Skellingthorpe roundabouts in the early hours of December 22.

The passengers of the Ford, a man and a woman both aged 19, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their families have been informed.

Lincolnshire Police said in a statement: “We are still keen to hear from anyone who believes they may have seen the Citroen C3 prior to the collision (or the collision itself) on the bypass between the Carholme and Skellingthorpe roundabouts about 12.50am on Saturday morning, or if you think you may have seen the white Citroen in and around Lincoln before about 12.45am, please contact 101.”
