Explosion at Spalding shop in ATM raid

Cash and cartridges were taken

Thieves are believed to have used a gas bottle to blow out a cash machine at a shop in Spalding over the weekend.

Residents were woken by the sound of an explosion as an ATM at the Late Shopper (Costcutter) store on Holbeach Road in Spalding was attacked in the early hours of the morning on Saturday, January 5.

Four people are believed to have been involved in the theft, during which cash and cartridges were taken. Offenders were said to have left the scene in a silver estate car.

Shop owner Ranjit Khela said: “They’ve used some sort of gas bottle or contraption to make it into a bomb in a confined area and that’s exploded into the shop.

“Debris gone all over the place within the store and outside, then they’ve collected the cash and disappeared.”
