Lincoln barge to set sail as new cocktail bar

They are now looking for a new captain

The University of Lincoln Students’ Union revealed its plans for a new premium cocktail bar experience on the Barge.

The long-empty former Barge on the Brayford boat restaurant was sold at auction to the University of Lincoln Students’ Union in July last year.

It was bought at auction for £192,000 but some students criticised the purchase, saying that SU were making a “frivolous purchase”.

Now the SU is looking for a new captain on the Barge and are holding interviews for the position in March.

In the £28k per annum job listing on The Lincolnite, they revealed that the barge would become a premium cocktail bar.

The senior team at the union said they’d be keeping the finer details and opening date under wraps for now.

The Lincolnite was previously told by the SU president that they expect the barge to open at the end of the academic year.

Kudzai Muzangaza, SU president, said: “We know that we want the barge venue to be open to both students and members of the public, but it is not going to be a party boat.

“The SU is aware of the residents nearby to the barge, so we want to make sure that the venue will not make much noise. It is going to offer a different vibe to our other venues.

“With auctions, you have to be prepared to make quick decisions but this wasn’t something that was decided off the cuff.

“We had meetings beforehand to look at the risks, but being quick and dynamic with our purchases means that the SU will not stay stagnant and can make these investments.”
