Lorry driver arrested after testing positive for cocaine

A male lorry driver has been arrested at Immingham docks after testing positive for cocaine.

Officers were called by staff at Immingham docks on Thursday, January 3 to a report of a trailer unit, which had come unattached from its lorry and rolled away.

The 38-year-old lorry driver from Grimsby was breathalysed and drug tested. The drugs test came back positive for cocaine before he was arrested and taken into custody.

On arrival, officers found that the unit had uncoupled, but hadn’t hit anything. Fortunately, nobody was hurt.

The man has since been released under investigation.

Chief Inspector Mark Bishop from Humberside Police’s Roads Policing Unit said: “This was potentially a very dangerous situation where a very heavy trailer unit had come uncoupled from a truck and rolled away. Fortunately no-one was hurt.

“The driver on this occasion tested positive for cocaine by our officers. To be in control of any vehicle especially one of this size while under the influence of drink or drugs is unacceptable.

“We work closely with our colleagues at the docks both on the North and South banks to ensure anyone who is suspected to be intoxicated in any way is stopped and not allowed to get behind the wheel.

“This individual was brought to our attention by our colleagues at Immingham and he was dealt with accordingly.”
