Homes set to get go-ahead despite residents’ concern

Councillors look set to approve for 145 homes in Immingham, despite “significant concerns” over flooding and traffic.

The plan, submitted by Peter Ward Homes Ltd, would see the development built on land off Habrough Fields and Pilgrims Way in the town.

As part of the proposal, nine two bedroom houses, 58 three bedroom houses, 10 three bedroom dormer bungalows and 68 four bedroom houses would be built.

North East Lincolnshire Council’s planning committee have been recommended to approve the plans at a meeting on April 3, despite objections from Immingham Town Council.

The area was hit by flooding in August 2017 following heavy rain and the failure of an Anglian Water pump, which left residents stranded.

Local people in the area have also raised “significant concern” about increased traffic should the plans be given the go-ahead.

In a letter to the council, Lewis Wilson, who lives on Pilgrims Way, said the authority needed to tackle the risk of flooding first.

He added that building new homes on the site will make traffic “a lot worse” in the town.

“The access and parking is ridiculous on Habrough Felds,” he said.

“Families now have two to three cars. Where are these going to park if you put 100-plus new homes on a smaller area than Habrough Fields?

“It will make it harder to access and park. The shopping area isn’t big enough to cope and the traffic in Immingham is going to be a lot worse.”

Drainage proposals to deal with potential flooding have been submitted by the developer.

In their plans, Peter Ward Homes said the aim of the site is to create a “sense of place” which blends with homes in the areas.

It said: “The proposals will help to ensure that within the local context, there is a range of housing available to meet the needs, preferences and aspirations of existing, emerging and incoming households.

“The proposed scheme will therefore assist in furthering the economic development ambitions of the council.”
