Abandoned staffie pulls through and finds new home

A remarkable transformation!

An abandoned staffie found so skinny he could barely stand has found his forever home after a touching recovery.

As previously reported, the poorly pup Alfie (previously called Albert) was rescued by the RSPCA on January 20 after he was found by a passer-by on Wooton Road in Grimsby.

When the three-year-old Staffordshire bull terrier was rescued he weighed just 8.2kg. When he was taken in he had discharge coming from his eyes, overgrown nails which had cut in his paws, a prolapsed penis and anaemia.

His ribs and spine were clearly visible when he was found, His muscles had wasted away so much he couldn’t open his mouth.

After being in the care of the Blue Cross in Grimsby he now weighs a much healthier 13.5kg. He has also found a new home which he went to on March 15, although the new owner does not wish to be named.

RSPCA Inspector Daniel Bradshaw said: “It was touch and go for this little fella at first but he has made a remarkable recovery. Alfie is an extremely friendly, outgoing character, he is full of life and loves people despite what he has been through. He is constantly wagging his tail and greets everyone he meets with love and affection.”

“Alfie’s transformation really is unbelievable, his coat is glossy and shiny, his ribs, hips and spine are no longer visible and his muscle strength has returned. I’m so pleased that he will now be living in a five star home with a new doggy friend.”*

The RSPCA investigation continues and as it is ongoing. The charity is unable to give any further details on the case at the time of writing.
