“RIP Aiden”: Heartbreak after third Welton Cliff crash fatality

Close friends paid tribute to him

Communities in and around Lincoln have shared messaged of love and support for the family of a third teenager who died has after a tragic crash at Welton Cliff.

Police confirmed the third fatality on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 27. 

The 17-year-old, who was treated at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham before passing away, has been named locally as Aiden Sawyer.

Two others who lost their lives in the crash have been named locally as 14-year-old Joby John and 17-year-old Ricky Sharp.

The crash involved a silver Vauxhall Astra. Three others escaped with minor injuries.

Keshell Dreikluft contacted The Lincolnite to pay tribute to Aiden William Sawyer.

She said: “I first met Aiden when I was 14. He was the kindest sweetest boy I’ve ever met.

“He made everyone laugh whether they were down or not and he always spoke his mind.

“I would like to thank his parents for raising such a gorgeous young man that I am proud to have spent most of my teenage life with him. He will be sadly missed and will forever be in my heart and mind.”

Kat Cook posted in response to The Lincolnite’s story: “So sad for everyone involved. No parent should ever have to bury their child. A long road to recovery for everyone involved. Truly heartbreaking.”

People left flowers at the scene and held a remembrance event in tribute to the victims.

Tributes also continue to pour pouring in memory of the victims of the crash.

GoFundMe pages have already been set up to help raise money for the funerals of Joby and Ricky.

A big meet will take place on City Square in Lincoln on Saturday, March 30 at 11am, with a collection of balloons and flowers which will go to the crash scene.
