South Kesteven officers praise affordable homes scheme

Plans for 46 affordable homes in Great Gonerby have been recommended for approval.

Applicant Longhurst Group says the build, on Easthorpe Road and Belton Lane, would include a mix of shared ownership and rented accommodation, made up of two, three and four bedroom properties.

The site will include open space to the south, including a pond.

In a report before South Kesteven District Councillors next Tuesday, officers praised the scheme. They said it will “not only benefit the applicants for affordable housing the local community and whole of the area.”

Objectors raised concerns over the site being unallocated greenfield, as well as suggesting the openness of the area adds to the rural character.

They have also noted worries including infrastructure, flooding and traffic.

However, officers say at least half the site is allocated for housing under council policies.

They add: “Although the proposal would erect the housing on undeveloped land; the site is well related to the built form of the village with housing immediately to the north, west and to a certain degree to the south, and whilst there would be encroachment into the countryside… this would be viewed against the backdrop of the existing settlement.”

Lincolnshire County Council’s Highways Department has not objected to the scheme.

More than £150,000 has been asked for from education and health bodies, however, Longhurst says it would not be able to provide a viable scheme should they be requested.
