Residents evacuated from Boston nursing home

Staff at care home were also let go

Residents have been evacuated from a Boston nursing home.

Concerns were raised about St John’s Nursing Home through monitoring from Lincolnshire County Council and CQC were then notified.

There are 31 residents at the home located on White House Lane in Boston. St John’s Nursing Home was registered by CQC in November 2018.

The county council has already begun the process of moving and relocating residents, which will continue into the weekend.

A source close to the situation, who wished to remain anonymous, told Lincolnshire Reporter the issue related to gross misconduct and resident safety.

They said: “Residents are being moved all over the country. Workers have been told today (April 5) that there won’t be any work from Monday at the latest.

“CQC are still at the premises and won’t leave until the last resident does.”

There are also claims the home has been forced to completely shut down by CQC, but this has yet to be confirmed.

Assistant director of adult care at Lincolnshire County Council, Carolyn Nice, said: “We have taken steps to ensure residents affected by the situation at St John’s Nursing Home are receiving the right care and support.

“Concerns were raised through the monitoring of standards in the home and these were found to be inadequate. In direct response to this we have decided with health partners to explore alternative care settings for residents.

“We are working closely with the Care Quality Commission and local NHS colleagues, to ensure the safe transfer of residents to alternative placements. We want to reassure people that if standards of care are inadequate then we take action and ensure people are looked after Safely.”

Reporters tried to contact the nursing home but the manager said he was not in a position to comment and would try to get the owner to contact us, but this hadn’t happened by the time of publication.

A CQC spokesman said: “CQC inspected at St John’s Nursing Home in Boston on Tuesday (2 April) when a number of significant concerns were found.

“We are taking action with regard to the home and working closely with the local authority and CCG.

“Due to our legal processes we are not able to comment further at this time.

“A full report detailing our inspectors findings will be published in due course. All CQC’s action is open to appeal.”
