Three Lincoln parks named among country’s best

Three of Lincoln’s much-loved parks have been given a top award and listed amongst some of the best in Britain.

Lincoln’s Arboretum, Boultham Park and Hartsholme Park are all celebrating after they won the Green Flag Award.

Sites earn the national status if they are judged to be welcoming, safe and well maintained with strong involvement from the local community.

The Arboretum, which was restored to its former glory in 2003, was the first place in Lincolnshire to achieve Green Flag status sixteen years ago.

Caroline Bird, head of community services from the City of Lincoln Council, said: “Lincoln prides itself on having some wonderful open spaces, and the awarding of the Green Flag proves that people in Lincoln are benefitting from green spaces of the highest quality.

“We want to use this occasion to thank our Park Advisory Groups and all of the brilliant volunteers who give of their time and energies so that we can all enjoy these beautiful parks which are so good for our wellbeing, for wildlife and for community events.”

To mark this very special occasion, we will be hoisting three green flags onto masts at all three parks on Wednesday 24 July.

The Arboretum flag will be raised at 11am, and Boultham and Hartsholme flags will be raised at 2:30pm.

Boultham Park also recently celebrated its 90th birthday by opening up an extensive archive of its history in pictures.
