Grimsby man jailed for three heartless attacks on elderly victims

A Grimsby man has been sentenced to over 10 years in jail for three heartless and unprovoked attacks on elderly and vulnerable men, including one victim who sustained a fractured skull.

Elliott Challis was arrested in November 2018 for assaulting and robbing a wheelchair-bound vulnerable man.

Just a couple of months later he struck again when he approached a man with a pool cue in an attempted robbery, but the victim managed to get away.

Challis went on to attack an elderly man with a table leg, causing a fractured skull and multiple injuries.

He was arrested and charged before being sentenced to spend the next 10 years and six months in jail.

Kerry Bull, Detective Inspector at Humberside Police, said: “I want to thank the victims and witnesses in these cases. Their bravery in initially coming forward and giving evidence and then reliving their experiences proved decisive in securing this significant sentence.

“Elliot Challis is clearly a danger to the public and his violence could easily have resulted in more serious injuries or even a fatality.

“I am confident that Grimsby is a safer place with Elliot Challis off the streets where he cannot target the most vulnerable in our society.”
