A man who throttled his partner leaving her terrified she was going to die has been jailed for 15 months.
Jordan Simpson, 24, had been in a relationship with Julie Fulmar for only a few weeks when he attacked her on June 29 at her flat in High Street, Long Sutton.
Dawn Pritchard, prosecuting, said the incident began moments after Simpson returned to the flat where he was living with her at the time.
Miss Pritchard said: “They argued and during that argument, he punched her several times to the face.
“He then grabbed her around the throat and squeezed her with one hand while punching her with the other.
“She started to blackout. She tried to stop him by pushing him away but was struggling to breathe.
“She thought she was going to die. She believed he wouldn’t stop until she was dead. She thought that if she called the police he would finish her off.”
The incident ended when Simpson left the flat.
Miss Pritchard said the attack happened just a couple of weeks after an earlier incident when he assaulted her.
“He picked her up and threw her towards the ceiling causing her to hit her head against a light fitting which smashed.
“He then walked over to the wardrobe and slammed that shut causing the mirror to smash.”
Simpson apologised and then left after being ordered out of the flat by Ms Fulmar.
Miss Pritchard added: “They had been in a relationship for about two months before these events.
“Initially things were good and he was living with her but the relationship deteriorated, particularly when he had been drinking.”
Simpson, 24, now of no fixed address, admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm as a result of the incident on 29 June.
He admitted charges of assault by beating and damaging property as a result of the earlier incident also admitted breach of a conditional discharge imposed for an assault on a previous partner.
He was jailed for a total of 15 months and given a five-year restraining order banning him from contacting Julie Fulmar.
David Eager, in mitigation, said that Simpson had a drink problem and has undergone a detox programme since being remanded in custody following his arrest at the end of June.
“He recognises his behaviour was appalling,” said Mr Eager.
