Investigation launched as person dies on Grantham train tracks

Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family

There is major disruption on the railway after a person died on the tracks.

British Transport Police told reporters officers went to Grantham station just after 7.30am on Tuesday morning to reports of a casualty on the tracks.

Paramedics attended but they sadly pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

The incident is not currently being treated as suspicious and officers will prepare a file for the coroner.

Service providers have warned people travelling on the morning of Tuesday, November 5 that trains are unable to call at Grantham Station.

Disruption is expected to continue until 1pm.

LNER has since cancelled the 10.06am, 12.06am from London Kings Cross to Lincoln as well as the 1.23pm and 3.26pm from Lincoln to London Kings Cross.

At the time of writing, the following routes are affected:

  • East Midlands Railway Liverpool-Nottingham-Norwich
  • Nottingham- Skegness
  • Grand Central between Sunderland-Bradford Forster Square and London Kings Cross
  • Hull Trains between Hull and London Kings Cross
  • LNER between Harrogate-Hull-York-Leeds-Lincoln and London Kings Cross
