Lincoln cafe makes hygiene turnaround after tough few months

“A huge thank you to my lovely and loyal customers.”

A Lincoln cafe has made a major hygiene turnaround to win back its five out of five rating.

Healthy Appetites on Corporation Street was given a one out of five rating earlier this year but the owner vowed to get their top rating back.

An inspector visited the cafe last week and has now told the owner that the food hygiene is “very good” overall.

The cafe now has a five out of five rating.

The rating from City of Lincoln Council inspectors on November 13 is made up of a range of three factors:

  • Hygienic food handling – Including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage – Very good
  • Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building –Including having appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control to enable good food hygiene – Good
  • Management of food safety – System or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future – Very good

Wendy Durham, manager at Healthy Appetites, was not available for comment on the rating but posted on the Facebook page to thank people.

She said: “Beyond delighted to announce this. Huge thank you to my girls and Paul and my family for their help and support.

“A huge thank you to my lovely and loyal customers. These last few months nearly broke me but you kept me all going.”

Back in April, she told The Lincolnite that she left the cafe to be managed by one of her staff after a very serious horse riding accident.
