Full list of road closures for the 2019 Lincoln Santa Fun Run

Get ready for this festive fun event

Drivers and residents in Lincoln will face nearly 24 hours of road closures and traffic restrictions as Lincoln prepares to host the Santa Fun Run & Walk on Sunday.

As previously reported, the 14th edition of the event organised by the Rotary Club of Lincoln Colonia will take place from 11.30am on Sunday, December 15 with a new route. Doncaster Sheffield Airport has also been announced as the lead sponsor for the 2019 event.

The entry fee is £12 per person (children under five and dogs are free), which includes a Santa suit and finishing medal. The event has the capacity for around 2,500 participants – click here to register.

Road closures and traffic restrictions

Lincolnshire County Council confirmed it will be necessary to impose a temporary restriction to all vehicular traffic on the below list of roads, and arrangements will be made to enable pedestrians to access premises in the affected area.

The period of restriction is from 3.30pm on Saturday, December 14 until 2pm on Sunday, December 15. Restrictions will be implemented as and when required in each location during this time, with signage detailing accurate dates and times to be displayed in advance.

Road closure orders will be in place in the following locations:

  • Bailgate (full length)
  • Burton Road (between Rasen Lane &Westgate)
  • Carline Road (full length)
  • Castle Hill (full length)
  • Chapel Lane (full length)
  • Church Lane (full length)
  • Drury Lane (full length)
  • Eastgate (full length)
  • Exchequergate (full length)
  • Nettleham Road (between Church Lane & Eastgate)
  • Newport (Bailgate to Rasen Lane)
  • Northgate (full length)
  • Pottergate (full length)
  • Priorygate (full length)
  • Spring Hill (between Drury Lane & Beaumont Fee)
  • St Paul’s Lane (full length)
  • Union Road (full length)
  • West Bight
  • Westgate (full length)
  • Wordsworth Street (full length)

Suspension of all residents parking, limited waiting, bus only, disabled & loading bays on:

  • Bailgate (full length)
  • Drury Lane (full length)
  • Eastgate (from Bailgate to Priory Gate)
  • Westgate (full length)
  • Union Road (full length)

No waiting & no loading at any time orders in place on:

  • Bailgate (full length, including parking bays)
  • Church Lane from Bailgate to Northgate (full length both sides)
  • Northgate (full length on both sides of road)
  • Eastgate (from Bailgate to Priory Gate on both sides of road)
  • Drury Lane (full length on both sides of road)
  • Union Road (full length on both sides of road)
  • Westgate (full length on both sides of road)

Local diversion routes and access arrangements will be signposted.

The new route

Due to extensive building work taking place around Lincoln Cathedral it has not been possible to include Minster Yard in the 2019 route.

The route will once again take place in the uphill area of the city with a grand finish in Castle Square. The two lap course will start in The Westgate and runners can choose to complete just the first lap (2.6km) or continue on a further 2km for lap two.

The 2019 route – Lap 1.

The second lap starts at Westgate near the water tower before participants will turn left onto Union Road. The rest of the route is as follows:

  • A left turn onto Drury Lane will follow before running into and through Castle Square and into the Bailgate
  • Turn right into Eastgate, turn left at The Lincoln Hotel into Northgate and bear left on Northgate leading into Church Lane
  • Turn left into Newport towards Newport Arch, through Newport Arch into the Bailgate
  • Turn right into Westgate, turn left into Union Road, turn left into Drury Lane running into Castle Square
  • Lap 1 runners finish in Castle Square
  • For Lap 2 run through Castle Square into the Bailgate and repeat Lap 1 finishing in Castle Square

Lincoln Santa Fun Run 2019 – Lap 2.

Lincoln City Foundation will be bringing along the Lincoln Imps mascot Poacher to support the event and people can meet him in Castle Square.

The event will raise money for around 12 different local charities, including Umbrellas, St Barnabas Hospice and St Andrews Hospice.
