Spalding man admits trying to engage in sexual activity with a child

He believed he was talking to a 14-year-old girl

A Spalding man has been warned he faces jail after admitting sex charges when he appeared before Lincoln Crown Court.

David Maltby pleaded guilty to attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child and attempting to cause a child to watch a sexual act.

He also admitted two charges of attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.

The charges relate to the period between June 6 and June 9 this year involving someone that Maltby believed to be a 14-year-old girl.

Maltby, 21, of Redthorne Close, Spalding, was granted conditional bail and the sentence was adjourned to January 10.

Recorder Charles Falk told him: “You are a man of hitherto good character and you are 21-years-old.

“This is plainly a matter which any court will want to know more about you. I order a pre-sentence report with all options open.

“The fact that I am ordering a pre-sentence report is no indication as to the sentence you will receive. You should prepare yourself for an immediate custodial sentence.”
