More than 50 lockdown fines now issued by Greater Lincolnshire police forces

Police forces covering Greater Lincolnshire and beyond have now issued 57 fines to people breaching lockdown rules.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police confirmed that as of today the force had issued 36 fixed penalty notices.

It follows a weekend in which officers attended a number of parties and barbecues, while blocking off railway stations and roads in a bid to stop people travelling to the coast.

People from Lincolnshire have also been getting in trouble with other forces, including three people yesterday who were fined after being stopped in Newark towing a caravan they had recently purchased from Essex to Lincolnshire.

Humberside Police Chief Constable Lee Freeman confirmed today (Wednesday) that his force had so far handed out 21 penalties around the Northern Lincolnshire, Hull and East Riding areas and had arrested a further seven people following incidents related to the restrictions.

He said: “I am confident that our policing style and approach remains the right one for the communities we serve, and crucially, remains consistent with the approach expected by the government.”

He said the force would continue to use a “common sense approach” to the situation going forward and thanked his staff and residents for their efforts.

Under the new powers introduced by government, officers can hand anyone breaking lockdown rules a £60 fine.

Second time offenders can get issued a £120 penalty, which then doubles further for each repeat offence.

Those who do not pay the fine can be taken to court where magistrates will be able to impose an unlimited fine.
