Biker dies after crash with ambulance on A16

The road was closed for several hours

A 30-year-old man has died after the motorbike he was riding crashed with an ambulance on the A16 at Calceby on Tuesday evening.

An EMAS ambulance and a silver Yamaha motorbike collided just before 6.30pm on June 9. The motorbike was travelling towards Ulceby Cross and the ambulance had travelled from the South Thorseby direction.

The ambulance was transporting a patient to Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, when the crash occurred. The patient did not suffer any injuries as a result and continued their journey to hospital in a different ambulance. The two ambulance crew members were also not injured.

The man, who was riding the motorbike, died at the scene and the road was closed for several hours before reopening at around midnight. The man’s next of kin are aware.

He has since been named by police as Liam Addison, who was living in Grainthorpe.

Ben Holdaway, Director of Operations at EMAS, said: “We would like to offer our deepest condolences to Liam’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident. The police are now carrying out an investigation into what happened, and it would therefore be inappropriate for us to make any further comment at this time.”

As part of police’s investigation, they are appealing for anyone who saw either of the vehicles travelling in the location prior to the crash or the crash itself.
