Week-long A1 northbound closure near Grantham

It’s for works on the Grantham southern bypass

By Local Democracy Reporter

The A1 near Grantham will be closed northbound overnight next week for work on the town’s bypass.

The full night-time closure will be between Little Ponton and Harlaxton, just a couple of miles from Grantham, between 8pm to 6am.

The road will be closed over the five evenings of Monday, July 6 to Friday, July 10, subject to suitable weather.

The diversion route will be via the A606 at Stamford to the A607 to A1 at Harlaxton.

Sixteen bridge beams will be delivered and installed as part of the new Grantham Southern Relief Road.

As well as this, one of the lanes on the southbound A1 will also be closed, with the rest running as usual.

Councillor Richard Davies, executive member for highways at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “The concrete bridge beams being delivered and installed to the western side of the A1 are key components of new relief road.

“As part of this set of work, a 250-tonne crane will be set-up to the west of the A1 to lift the beams off the delivery lorries and onto the support structures the team have built over recent months.

“We will be working closely with Highways England to minimise disruption, including making sure the A1 is open during the day, and want to thank everyone for their patience while this work is carried out.”
