Andrew Kerry unveiled as new Mayor of Lincoln

New mayor: The 809th Mayor of Lincoln has been officially elected.

Councillor Andrew Kerry has been officially elected as the 809th Mayor of Lincoln.

He was appointed at a ceremony at the Guildhall, attended by councillors and members of the public.

After accepting the mayoral ring as a symbol of the honour and dignity of the office, Kerry, who has represented Hartsholme on the city council since 2007, said: “It is an honour to be able to represent this fine city, and I am looking forward to the many experiences, opportunities and challenges presented by the mayoral year ahead.

“This is the start of what promises to be a very busy year. As Mayor of Lincoln, I am very pleased to announce that I will be supporting Lincolnshire-based organisation LIVES (Lincolnshire Integrated Voluntary Emergency Service), with whom I am associated as a first responder.

“The theme for this mayoral year will be ‘learn CPR with the Mayor’, which will be supported by a range of events in the city throughout the year.”

Fellow Conservative councillor for Hartsholme ward Ron Hills spoke of Kerry’s passion for helping people through his work with LIVES.

He said: “It gives me great pleasure to propose my fellow councillor, great friend and partner in crime Andrew Kerry as 809th Mayor of Lincoln.”

Retiring mayor, Councillor Brent Charlesworth, received a vote of thanks from councillors and announced that he had raised around £5,000 for two Lincoln-based organisations – DialaRide and Development Plus – during his year in office.

Sharon Longthorne will be Mayoress for the 2015-16 term, Graham Kent is Sheriff with Gill Kent as Sheriff’s Lady, and Councillor Chris Burke will be Deputy Mayor with Councillor Sue Burke as Deputy Mayoress.
