Lincoln Shuttleworth House re-opens after £3.2m refurb

Shuttleworth House in Lincoln has officially been re-opened after a multi-million pound refurbishment to provide tenants with greener and cleaner energy.

New Mayor of Lincoln Yvonne Bodger unveiled a commemorative plaque near the building’s Eastern entrance in the Stamp End area of the city at 3pm on Thursday, May 19, to mark the opening of the flats.

City of Lincoln Council has invested £3.2 million in overseeing the refurbishment of Shuttleworth House over the past 18 months.

The scheme was funded through the council’s Housing Investment Programme, and the government’s ECO Scheme.

A new biomass boiler has been installed at the flats, which should reduce fuel bills for tenants and save approximately 10,640 tonnes of carbon.

All flats now have a monitoring meter, which will enable residents to keep an eye on their heat and hot water usage and costs.

Tenants previously relied on expensive and inefficient electric storage heaters.

The project has also included the installation of insulation in the walls and ceilings, improving the ventilation system and replacing windows and balcony doors.

Bob Ledger, Director of Housing and Communities at City of Lincoln Council said: “This exciting project has seen the city council invest £3.2 million in refurbishing the tower block.

“As well as extending the life of the building, these improvements go some way to creating a more sustainable city.

“The work has gone incredibly well and we are very proud of the outcome.”
