New Winterton homes plan would push resources to ‘breaking point’, say residents

They say the town does not have the infrastructure

Residents in Winterton have said a plan for a further 66 homes in the town would push local resources to “breaking point”.

The proposals submitted to North Lincolnshire Council by Mark Simmonds Planning Services would see the houses built off North Street.

As part of the plans, 20% of the homes would be allocated to affordable housing.

The developer said in its plans that the development would be a “natural extension” to the village.

But, objectors to the plan have said that the town does not have the infrastructure to support more homes.

In letters to the council, concerned residents said the area would not be able to cope with the number of developments being proposed.

A development of 135 homes is planned off North Street and Cemetery Road in the town after the developers won an appeal in 2017, as well as a further 120 homes on Top Road.

Joanne Fieldhouse, Cemetery Road, said there were too many “pot shot” developments proposed which would have an impact on Winterton.

“There is not presently the level of infrastructure within Winterton to support yet another housing development,” she said.

“Whilst I agree the site is a better one than others proposed recently, the town will be unable to support a further 66 families living within it once the development behind Cemetery Road and North Street is complete.”

Meanwhile, Gloria Cooke, Burgon Crescent, said doctors, dentists and local schools would see added pressure with more housing developments.

“Compared to Brigg with a similar population there are nowhere near the same amount of shops, pubs, restaurants or leisure facilities,” she said.

“Additional development would test resources to breaking point.”

Planners at North Lincolnshire Council will make a decision on the proposal at a later date.
