Council fears arson at new Sutton-on-Sea beach hut

There’s been a rise in arson attacks

Mablethorpe Town Council worries that a proposed beach hut could be the latest victim of arson attacks.

It has objected to the plans for Sutton-on-Sea promenade on the grounds that it wouldn’t be fire proof.

It says that beach huts are increasingly becoming the target of anti-social behaviour.

The application is recommended for approval at East Lindsey District Council’s planning committee next week, despite the concerns.

“The town council noted an increase of anti-social behaviour (ie. arson attacks) on beach huts within the parish,” the statement says.

“Whilst it had historically supported foreshore development, it felt necessary to request that the planning authority seriously considers these increased attacks and supports the town council suggestions of the use of flame resistant and retardant material in respect of future beach hut applications.”

According to the application, the beach hut would be made of timber sheets with bifold doors.

The application has been brought by Councillor Richard Fry of Binbrook.

The plot is currently vacant, and no other objections have been raised against it.

It is likely to get the green light at the planning meeting held on September 1.
