Lucy the Dragon will be flying back to Lincoln Castle this summer and this time she won’t be alone.
Two new dragon sculptures will be installed under Lincolnshire County Council’s planning application, along with a new bandstand in the grounds ahead of its summer programme.
The application asks for permission for two years, meaning Lucy and her new friend will be able to come and go as they please.
There is no name currently for the second dragon, and how the pair know each other is a mystery yet to be revealed.
Events this year will include the return of the Grand Medieval Joust, the Great British Outdoor Picnic for the Coronation and the Asylum Steampunk Weekend.
Stephanie Beecher, Lincoln Castle event officer, said: “Lucy the Dragon originally joined us in April last year, and enjoyed herself so much she ended up extending her stay so she could see through Christmas and New Year with us.
“She may have only left in January, but she’s already planning her return, and hoping to bring along a friend so they can both enjoy more time in the city.
“Subject to approval by planners, Lucy’s favourite spot at Lincoln Castle’s Cobb Hall will become the dragons’ lair, and the pair will be able to come and go as they please over the next two years.
“We’re hoping the dragons will be given permission to land, joining us for another summer of exciting events.”

It is hoped the dragons, along with the bandstand will enhance the castle’s offering, increase visitor numbers and create an improved awareness of the heritage site.
The initial installation of the dragons will be from Monday, June 19, with the sculpture opening to the public on Saturday, June 24.
The exhibit will remain on site for around seven months and is due to be removed for the first time in January 2024.
