The 13.1 mile race, which takes place on October 2, has already received 3,000 applications with the ages of those running ranging from 17 to 88.

Of those entering, 64% had an LN postcode and 40% said it would be their first half marathon. Some 58% are men and 42% are women.

Competitors will begin and finish at the Lincolnshire Showground, enjoying the flat straight down Burton Road into the Cathedral Quarter and the downhill slope to the Brayford Pool, before the real challenge begins in the form of a Yarborough Hill climb and a finish line dash.

For those wishing to split the route in half, they can sign up as a relay partnership with a friend.

The first leg will be a five mile run and the second leg will be eight miles, including Yarborough Hill.

Iain Hamilton, Race Director said: “Response to the event has been amazing for the first year and we’re all really excited about putting on a memorable event which will not only benefit the people of Lincoln but also our partner charities.”

The chosen charities for the Lincoln Half Marathon is the Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours to Cancer’ Foundation and Cancer Research.

Organisers are still on the looking for volunteers to help steward the event.

Volunteers will receive a Lincoln Half Marathon crew jacket, lunch and any training needed.
