Conservative win in North Kesteven District Council by-election

Conservatives gain seat after death of independent councillor.

Conservatives won the Eagle, Swinderby and Witham St Hughs ward in a North Kesteven District Council by-election on February 22.

Peter Rothwell was elected councillor with 563 votes and 57.8% of the vote.

Nikki Dillon from the Lincolnshire Independents received 347 votes and Lib Dem Corrine Nelly Antoine Byron had 64 votes.

The count took place at the Natural World Centre in Thorpe-on-Hill and the overall voter turnout was 21%.

The by-election was called after long-standing independent councillor Barbara Wells MBE died in December 2017 at the age of 83.

The ward covers the parishes of Doddington and Whisby, Eagle and Swinethorpe, North Scarle, Swinderby, Thorpe on the Hill, and Witham St Hughs.
