Plans for new apartment block lodged for Scunthorpe town centre

Developers say the building would bring “much-needed’ housing to the town.

Plans for a block of 10 new apartments near to Scunthorpe town centre have been lodged.

The new apartment building is proposed for vacant land on Cliff Gardens and would come with associated parking.

It comes after North Lincolnshire Council approved plans for 10 assisted living apartments on the same site in November 2016.

The site was previously owned by the council and was used for offices for local education staff.

The land has since been divided up and sold for development by North Lincolnshire Council.

Planning permission is now being sought by Mark Simmonds Planning Services on behalf of applicant Dana Omar.

If given approval, the new development would see a three storey apartment block built.

The applicant said that the trees surrounding the Cliff Gardens site would be retained and protected during the construction process.

They added that the development would bring much needed housing to the town centre area.

In a design and access statement, Mark Simmonds said: “The nature of the proposed development would contribute to helping overcome the national current deficit of much needed housing, particularly by providing high quality apartments in the urban area.”
