Imps Wembley hero signs for Grimsby

Whitehouse scored the Imps’ winner at Wembley

Lincoln City’s Wembley hero Elliott Whitehouse has joined county rivals Grimsby Town on a two-year deal.

Grimsby Town confirmed the news on its official website, but a spokesperson for Lincoln City said “the club aren’t commenting on the matter”.

As previously reported, the midfielder scored the winning goal as the Imps lifted the Checkatrade Trophy with a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury in their first trip to Wembley in 133 years back in April.

The 24-year-old joined the Imps back in 2016 on a deal to run until the end of the 2017/18 season and was offered a new contract by the club last month.

However, he has chosen to move on to pastures new to become Grimsby boss Michael Jolley’s fourth summer signing ahead of the 2018/19 season.

The midfielder was a product of Sheffield United’s academy before going on to play for Alfreton, York, Notts County, FC Halifax Town, Nuneaton and most recently Lincoln.
