Peterloo film shot in Lincoln out this week

It will tell the story of the Peterloo massacre

Peterloo is out on the big screen this week, a year on from when production crews took over Lincoln.

Oscar nominated director Mike Leigh took the helm for the film about a massacre of peaceful protestors.

Peterloo is a real-life story based on the killing of 15 people and injury of hundreds more after cavalry charged at over 60,000 protestors.

It is set in 1819, with the Steep Hill and Cathedral Quarter making a perfect setting for the historic film.

As reported at the time, the Bailgate area was filled with a cast of more than 100 actors, historic props and film crews.

The film comes out in selected cinemas on Friday, November 2 but Peterloo won’t be shown at the Lincoln Odeon.

Gainsborough Old Hall was also used as a location by the production crew.

Peterloo is set to be Leigh’s biggest budget film after receiving backing from Amazon Studios.

Next year, another film shot in Lincoln this summer will debut — The King.
