Firefighters frustrated with cars blocking fire station exit

It is causing frustration to the fire station

Cars blocking the exit to North Hykeham Fire Station are causing frustration and delays for emergency crews trying to respond to incidents.

North Hykeham Fire Station posted on Twitter to vent its frustration at traffic blocking the exit and drivers ignoring the yellow ‘keep clear’ lines in front of the station on Mill Lane.

It appears as though the cars are queued at traffic lights, but it is causing delays to some of the fire service’s responses.

The station said: “So we have blue lights, a siren and bright yellow KEEP CLEAR markings, yet we have again been delayed responding to an emergency incident because of traffic blocking us”.

Watch Manager at North Hykeham Fire Station Lucy Harrison told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: “I’m just trying to raise awareness because we’re struggling to get fire engines out to deal with emergencies, which can be quite frustrating. It’s poor situational awareness really.”

This is not a new problem though as Donington Community Fire Station previously posted on social media showing inconsiderate parking.

In one instance the station said “parking like this makes it difficult for our personnel to get access to our station”.

In another case at Donington, a lorry driver’s “inconsiderate” parking blocked access overnight while they waited at a nearby chip shop.
