Roll up for Eventful Sleaford on Saturday, September 4

A truly eventful day is in store for Sleaford with a series of events by organisers, from classic wheels and a planned Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast weather permitting, to food, town crying, cycles, crafts and climate action – all for free and magnified with a map trail and more linking them all. 

A number of fun-filled events are taking place in the town on Saturday, September 4, free and for the enjoyment of all:

• The Sleaford Classic Car and Motorcycle Show, with over 120 cars and motorcycles from around the world and 100 years of automotive history on display, plus a BBMF flypast weather permitting, at Lafford Terrace off East Road, from 10.30am-4.30pm. 
• Town crying competition, drawing town criers to Sleaford for the prestigious contest of Loyal Company of Town Criers members for a parade and two rounds of ‘crying, a 10.45am parade from Navigation Yard to Market Place and competition 11am-12.15pm and 2pm-3.30pm.
• Artisan market, food and craft galore with live music to enjoy between, taking place at Millstream Square, 10am-3pm.
• Farmers’ Market, the best of seasonal and high quality produce at the Farmers’ Market held on the first Saturday of each month, at Market Place in Sleaford, 7.30am-4pm (traders may finish earlier).
• Love Our Planet at the Hub, family friendly ways to help the planet with stalls, demonstrations and activities, taking place at Eastgate Green at the Hub with partners Sleaford Climate Action Network and Global Sleaford, supported by Sleaford Town Council and a presence from North Kesteven District Council, from 11am-3pm.
• The bike shed, showcasing cycling and more including options for happier and easier cycling with Pedal Electric Cycles, cycle tips from the Sustrans, saddling up with the Sleaford Wheelers Cycling Club, discovering all the attractions Sleaford has to offer with Heart of Lincolnshire, and more two-wheeled fun, all at Eastbanks Green next to Sleaford Leisure Centre, from 11am – 3pm. 
• Navigation House also open for visitors, from midday – 4pm, at Navigation Yard 
• Riverside walk, for those who fancy an amble along the River Slea towards Cogglesford Mill, currently closed while its waterwheel undergoes restoration, to enjoy its setting ready for a return visit when the mill reopens.

These events, brought to life by partners and organisers, are being magnified by North Kesteven District Council which is using a share of the Government’s Welcome Back fund to help promote them under a single banner – Eventful Sleaford.

A leaflet will be available to pick up around the town centre outlining the events and joining them up on a map. There’ll also be signage to help visitors make their way around and enjoy all that’s on offer, along with various other promotion of it. 

There’ll also be decorated bicycles to spot as you walk, and other crafty touches to the town centre to create further excitement on the day. 

Battle of Britain Memorial Flight

Leader of North Kesteven District Council, Councillor Richard Wright, said: “Sleaford is a vibrant place that’s well worth a visit at any time. Whether you are looking for a shopping trip along a unique and varied high street, a bite to eat and drink or a place to stay, searching out leisure and exercise or are looking for an attraction to visit, there are a variety of things to see and do.

“It’s wonderful for all these events to be taking place in Sleaford, forming a single fun-packed day for all on September 4, and we’re proud to help promote the efforts of the organisers by showcasing what’s on and encouraging visitors along. 

“Whether you think you’ve seen all Sleaford has to offer, or have never been before, there is something exciting and engaging for everyone on this eventful day.” 

Sleaford Classic Car and Motorcycle Show Chairman Emma Kiteley-Connon said: “The Sleaford Classic Car and Motorcycle Show Committee are getting really excited to welcome everyone back. It’s been a difficult year, but we are really proud of what we’ve managed to achieve for our visitors. 

“We have over 100 different vehicles booked in from decades of motoring so there will be something for everyone to enjoy. There will also be food and trade stands to look at, the Sleaford Museum on the Road team will be there, and there will be a flypast from a member of the BBMF in the afternoon, weather permitting. This flypast will be able to be enjoyed by people visiting the other amazing events that are taking place on the same day.

“September 4 will be a great day to visit Sleaford as there is so much going on, not only our show, which is nearly 30 years old, but the town crier event, the artisan market, and the farmers’ market  to name but a few.”

Craft and community groups are also invited to help bring the town centre to life with yarn-bombing decorations. 

There are plenty of spots where yarn-bombing can happen – from post boxes and sign posts to phone boxes and the green car-shaped cycle racks in the town centre.

If you’re travelling in, do consider cycling with plenty of safe cycle parking throughout the town, walking, or parking slightly further out at Grantham Road for just £2 for the whole day.
