Conservative parliamentary candidate Karl McCartney continued his campaign to become the next Lincoln MP on Tuesday (November 19) as Minister for Transport, Chris Heaton-Harris, visited The Lincolnite.
Mr McCartney said that he believed the Eastern Bypass should be a dual carriageway at the end, advocated for an “effective” park and ride system and that the Conservative party would deliver Brexit if elected.
Meanwhile, Mr Heaton-Harris said that Pacer trains which run from Lincoln train station would be phased out by the government next year and that the city needs more investment in its roads.
As well as the Eastern Bypass, both Mr McCartney and Mr Heaton-Harris said more investment was needed in Lincoln’s roads.
Mr McCartney said less traffic was needed in the city centre and added that he believes the Eastern Bypass project should be a dual carriageway at the end.
Buses and park and ride
Mr Heaton-Harris said the government was investing more in bus services.
Meanwhile, Mr McCartney said the city would benefit from an “effective” park and ride system to ease traffic in the centre.
Trains to the city
Pacer trains, which date back decades, will be phased out by the government next year, confirmed Mr Heaton-Harris.
The government made a U-turn on the phasing out of the trains last month, which were expected to be removed from service at the end of the year.
When asked, he said the new trains have not come in on the delivery timetable but will be removed by May 2020.
“Conservatives will deliver Brexit”
Both Mr McCartney and Mr Heaton-Harris claimed the Tories would deliver Brexit, should they gain a majority.
When it was put to them that the party had numerous chances to pass a deal, both said the deals had been frustrated by opposition parties.
“Brexit Party can’t deliver Brexit”
Mr Heaton-Harris said a vote for the Brexit Party would take votes away from the Conservatives and “make it more likely that Jeremy Corbyn will be Prime Minister”.
