Spalding biker named as police investigate fatal A16 crash

Another driver received minor injuries

A male motorbike rider from Spalding who died in a four-vehicle crash on the A16 has been named by police.

As previously reported, the road was closed after the crash involving four vehicles on the A16 at Newborough, which was reported to Cambridgeshire Police at 5.58am on February 7. The collision involved a Honda motorcycle, Peugeot Boxer, Vauxhall Insignia and a Fiat Punto.

The rider of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene and he has since been named by police as Simon Rayner, 51, of Thomas Road in Spalding.

Another driver was taken to Peterborough City Hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Peugeot Boxer, a 28-year-old man from Spalding, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs. He has since been released under investigation.
