Grimsby teen charged after scaling roof and hurling missiles at police

Police charged him with eight offences

A teenager who climbed the roof of a three-storey building and threw missiles at officers to avoid arrest has now been charged by police.

As previously reported, Daniel Chandler, 18, climbed onto a roof on Cleethorpe Road on Tuesday, March 3, causing road closures and disruption in the Lincolnshire town.

He was seen taking his top off on the roof and throwing items and debris at the emergency services.

Chandler, of Cleethorpe Road in Grimsby, was later arrested and taken into custody. He has since been charged with eight offences.

Four charges were for offences that occurred between January 12 and February 26. They were an assault, criminal damage and two counts of theft.

A further four charges were for offences that happened between March 2 and 3 – an assault with intent to cause GBH, robbery and a public order offence.

It also included a common law offence relating to him taking to the roof of a property and throwing items and debris at emergency services.

Chandler is due to appear in court on Thursday, March 5.

Kerry Bull, Detective Inspector at Humberside Police, previously said: “People who choose to go on the roof of a building to evade arrest, creating incidents of this nature, are acting incredibly irresponsibly and causes great distress to the residents and the hard working decent families that get caught up in it.”
