The move is part of the authority’s regeneration plans which include a £5.7 million extension to the existing Church Square building to accommodate council employees.
The council confirmed that options are currently being considered for the use of the town’s Civic Centre.
A North Lincolnshire Council spokesperson said: “We are still considering a range of options with interested parties for the future use of the Civic Centre building, which represents an exciting opportunity for the area.
“We’ll be sharing plans with our residents once they have been confirmed.”
Employees will be moved to the town centre area in a move which authority bosses said will help for more effective use of council buildings.
The council is looking to secure a developer for the Civic Centre or a joint venture partnership in an effort to refurbish the building.
Chris Fairbrother, Group Manager for Asset and Estate Management at North Lincolnshire Council, said: “Now is the time to start seeking a developer or joint venture partner to bring forward the redevelopment of the Civic Centre.
“This Grade II listed building has been an important landmark building within the town since its construction in the mid-1960s and it is important that we secure the best terms for the building and the right sort of redevelopment.”
Further projects as part of the council’s town centre regeneration plans include a £15 million university centre, £14.7 million 200 unit facility for NHS employees and 60 new one and bedroom homes on Lindum Street.
A refurbishment of Scunthorpe Central Library and the construction of a new headquarters for Ongo Homes have also been completed.
