Not again! West Common memorial wing damaged

Second time it’s been vandalised

The RAF 100 Voices Memorial Wing located on West Common has been vandalised once again.

As previously reported, the wing was stolen and discarded nearby when it was originally installed in May. Another wing was damaged on South Common soon after.

Now the sign has been knocked down and trashed in a second spate of vandalism.

The 100 wings act as information panels telling the stories of 100 people in the RAF.

Nick Whyatt, who spotted the damage and posted pictures to Facebook page You’re Probably From Lincoln If, said: “I noticed as I was walking the kids to school across the West Common that another of the commemorative wings has been destroyed this morning.

“I think it’s incredibly disappointing when we have great features like this and the Knight’s Trail that get people exploring the wider area that they get vandalised and destroyed.”

Later update – 12:03pm: Lincoln BIG Chief Executive Matt Corrigan said: “We think the West Common wing has been knocked over, possibly accidentally by a horse.

“We are going to replace the support pole and it will be back in place by the weekend.”
