Moonshine gin turned into hand sanitiser for Lincoln hospital

Tough times, desperate measures

By Local Democracy Reporter

A local wine distributor and gin distiller has decided to turn his moonshine gin into hand sanitiser for Lincoln County Hospital.

Toby Hope of HOPE Wines initially experimented with his alcohol distilling to create five litres of sanitiser.

This was in response to Lincoln County Hospital’s urgent appeal for the product after a nationwide shortage.

It’s the third Lincolnshire distillery to turn their spirits into hand sanitiser.

Speaking to The Lincolnite, Toby spoke of his pride at the success of the design.

“We noticed a Lincoln NHS Help Group crying out for hand sanitiser so we offered them our simple product which I’m proud to say is now being used in Lincoln’s maternity ward as they are struggling with supply.

“We are not looking for any commercial gain and didn’t really want to put it out there but friends have said we should, to put some positive news out there during these current times.

“We have given away every drop we have made.

“Normally we would make the Alcohol into Toby’s Moonshine Gin which we were selling to pubs and restaurants; that business has obviously gone for now.”
